My Logo Contest

So I'm Having a Logo Contest

Here is where you can showcase your talent. Hopefully in time this website will become popular enough that people will want to have their logos displayed on it. This is your chance! I am in dire need of some logos for some of my websites. I would also like to see more concepts for logos I am currently content with. Unfortunately, being a student, I don't have a lot of money to offer for this contest, but what I would like to offer is a permanent place in the side bar and review page of my website. Check out the rules and themes below.

Contest Rules

There are no hard and set rules to this contest. As of today, November 8th, 2008, I have yet to make a single dime off of my web development efforts. The rules will likely change in the event that we start making money and have a little more to offer in return. There are a few things you will have to consider though:

  1. Nothing too wide. I can modify the size of the logos somewhat to fit into my sidebar, but if they are too wide they won't be nearly as visible.
  2. Original artwork only! If I find out you've used stock images in your logos, they will taken down from my website immediately.
  3. Logos must fall into the themes listed below. I have no use for logos created for websites that aren't mine.
  4. In the event that I love your logo(s) so much, I hope I can negotiate with you over a fair price for ownership of your work. (I have yet to figure out the best way to handle the legalities and payment of the transaction. Payments will probably be made via PayPal.)
  5. In the event that I find myself linking to a website that has content that I deem offensive, lowers my search engine ranking or has a bad reputation, I will have to remove your portfolio and link from my website.
  6. Logo Themes are based on my needs at the time and are subject to change depending on what websites I am currently working on. All of the websites that these logos are being made for are my own. I am not a logo reseller.
  7. There is no deadline for this contest. Winners will be posted when I receive five acceptable images. Payments will be made when an agreement over price is reached.

Sound fair? Incentives will undoubtedly improve once this website is generating traffic and revenue. Until then, I hope you will be willing to participate anyways. Good luck!

Logo Contest Entry and Submissions

I'm eventually going to put a form with an upload button in this spot, but right now, I don't know how to do it. For the time being, enter by sending an email to Mahatma.heil@gmail.com.

Logo Contest Themes

Listed below are the themes you can choose from to create your logos and enter my contest with. These are projects I am working on. Some have logos I am currently content with. Most do not. I will require at least 5 acceptable images for a slideshow in my sidebar. If you wish to do less, I may still include your submissions or buy them depending on the quality of the work.

Sports Theme - TheRunway

TheRunway was my very first website. At present, it has done very little for me. I have TheRunway.ca singlets and I have a somewhat functioning website. The original logo artist did a pretty good job on this logo and charged me a fair price. I had TenDollarLogo make several attempts at improving on the logo, but they didn't come up with anything I really liked. I also had another design company challenge the existing logo and they failed too. TheRunway has become a small network of websites that, with the exception of TheRunway Canada, have next to nothing on them. I would like this to change, but need some logos for these sites:

  • TheRunway Canada - I need a logo as stylish as the one presently on this site. The big change I need for this logo is I want the word "Canada" included.
    Tagline
    : Take Off
    Tips
: Images are great; cliches aren't. Try to avoid beavers and the maple leaf.
  • TheRunway Europe - Same as TheRunway Canada but alter the style to make it look European.
    Tagline
    : Take Off
    Tips
: I have no suggestions for this one.
  • TheRunway Asia - Same as TheRunway Canada but alter the style to make it look Asian.
    Tagline
    : Take Off
    Tips
: Please don't use that tacky font they always use for Asian restaurants.
  • TheRunway USA - Same as TheRunway Canada but alter the style to make it look American.
    Tagline
    : Take Off
    Tips
: I don't mind the red, white and blue for colors, but you don't have to use them.
  • Runway Love - this is a matchmaking/dating site for running singles. I don't have a tagline for it yet, but if you have an idea, let me know.
    Tips
: Something fun and funky. I would prefer a mischievous Cupid over a heart image any day.

Religious Theme - Christianity and the Quakers

The first website I ever did for school was Conservative Quakers of America and the most successful site I've done, so far, is QuakersOnline. Neither website ever really needed a logo, but I did manage to have a logo developed for QuakersOnline anyways, and my personal favourite, QuakerIsTheNewPunk.com. My Christian Quaker network took off as a result of indifference by other established Quaker website administrators. No one would link to my little website I put so much effort into. Well, where God closes one door, another one opens. I decided to create my own network of Christian Quaker websites, so I wouldn't need the acceptance of the established order to generate traffic to my ministry. Below are a few suggestions of sites you can choose from:

  • Quaker Is The New Punk - There's a great logo for this website already in the LogoSamurai portfolio in the sidebar.
    Tagline
    : (none)
    Tips
: Stick with the color schemes of rich reds, black and white. I'm not likely to deviate from it even if I do redevelop.
  • One Word Jesus - I can sum up my transformation from gypsy beggar to bohemianprince in one word: Jesus. This thought initiated the purchase of this domain name which is likely to be the future website of my testimony. Should God do a great work through me, this is the site where I will testify about it.
    Tagline
    : onewordjesus.com
    Tips
: I'm not big on images of Jesus unless you can do it really well. A silhouette or outline of Christ might be really nice though. Keep it simple.
  • Quakers - This website generates a lot of traffic basically because of the strength of the URL. There is a variation of the QuakerIsTheNewPunk logo up currently, but I am looking for something different. Not sure what though.
    Tagline
    : Quakers.org
    Tips
: Go nuts! I don't have any ideas for this logo and will base the rest of the design for this site around a good one.
  • Quietism - This mystical interpretation of Christianity was popular in the 17th Century, founded by Miguel de Molinos, and in my words can best be summed up as "a renunciation of self will to let God's will live through us."
    Tagline
    : Quietism.org
    Tips
: Don't use an image of Molinos. The focus of Quietism is the light of Christ within us.
  • QuakersOnline - This website has a PHP stylesheet switcher, so various logos would much be much appreciated. This is our online community. It was up once and had a lot of members but had to be shut down due to fraudulent behaviour on it. I am currently learning how to redevelop it.
    Tagline
    : (none)
    Tips
: I would love to develop a number of different themes for this site from traditional to very progressive. This logo is the one exception to the dimensions rule as well. It may not fit into the sidebar, but I would love a logo that could be used as a banner (up to 720px wide).

Running Baby Theme - Marathon Baby

This is actually only one website with several small images. MarathonBaby.com is a running/marathon website, but the images will be of a baby in both running and non-running poses. TenDollarLogo created some of the original images for this website, but shut down before I could get them to do the remaining ones. MarathonBaby is currently down and pretty low on my list of things to do. None-the-less, any images I do get, I will put up on an index page as soon as I can.

  • MarathonBaby - There's a pretty good logo for this website already in the LogoSamurai portfolio in the sidebar.
    Tagline
    : marathonbaby.com
    Tips
: You can use the same infant character over and over again for these images or you can create a different rug rat for each image. The one thing I do like though is the baby bib doubling as a race bib. I think this is very clever.
  • Fuelling Up - This will be a page dedicated to proper running nutrition. The image will be of a baby eating.
    Tagline
    : Fuelling Up
    Tips
: Think cute. Maybe a baby eating a bowl of gruel with a messy face would work. If you do switch up the colors, stick to base colors.
  • Race Day - This will be a page dedicated to the race day experience. You may have to do your research on this one. When I think of race day, I always think of a bunch of guys standing around, at the starting line, constantly checking their watches.
    Tagline
    : Race Day
    Tips
: Refer to the same tips as the previous two images.
  • Training - No one has yet to attempt this image. I think if someone had a really clever idea AND had the skills to match. this one could be a lot of fun.
    Tagline
    : Training
    Tips
: Be clever. I'm not sure what I would like for this image, but a baby training for a marathon could have a lot of possibilities. The race bib is off on this one.
  • Finish Line - This image is pretty simple. Marathon Baby crossing the finish line. This will be a page dedicated to post race thoughts and experiences. As well, it may include tips for recovery.
    Tagline
    : Finish Line
    Tips
: I want the image of the baby to look like it has run a marathon. Fatigued, sweaty and overjoyed to be finished.

Web Design Theme - DayDreams Design Studio

Have you ever seen the CSS Zen Garden website? This is something to behold. Check it out. I am slowly becoming an expert at Cascading Style Sheets and would like to create a simple HTML document connecting to various stylesheets. The DayDreams Design Studio logo will be several logos with different themes. Then the object will be to create a graphic that matches the logo. There are no guidelines on this one. Check out DayDreams to view our work. (As of February 7, 2012, this site has yet to be launched.)

  • One website: DayDreams Design Studio.
    Tagline
    : (none)
    Tips
: I like dolphins, angels, sports, nature, traditional blues music, something humourous, different cultural and religious themes. Not all in one logo though.

Assorted Themes - Miscellaneous Websites

This is where you can choose from five out of eight options. There is a lot of variety here and I would hope somebody would attempt this category. Most of these websites aren't up yet, but they are still ideas I would like to build on. I think I am more likely to judge this category the harshest as there are so much potential for great art to be created here.

  • Calgary Transit Sucks - This site is simply going to be a blog of my daily ventures on Calgary Transit. You guessed it. I hate it! This website is guaranteed traffic if I ever get it up and running.
    Tagline
    : Enjoy the Ride?
    Tips
: I can think of any number of images that might work for this logo. There's the people who ride the C-Trains every day that get packed in like sardines. Then there are those of us who are left waiting in the cold, rain, snow and other crappy weather conditions, while our bus is 15 minutes late. There's the guy who gets beaten up at the C-Train station. There are the drunks who harass the other passengers while riding the free fare zone downtown. And last, but certainly not least, there are the two hour long rides home on long weekends while they do track maintenance. As if working the long weekends isn't bad enough!
  • Ohio Kitty - This is a website about a plain-dressing Quaker woman from Lebanon, Ohio. Her name is Kitty Gamble, and she's a good friend of mine. The basic framework for this website is up, but there isn't any content yet. In time, Kitty might develop her own logo. But for now, we'd like to see what the professionals can do. Pictures of Kitty can be found on our Photo Gallery page.
    Tagline
    : (none)
    Tips
: There are several pictures of Kitty on the index page of OhioKitty.com. The one we would like the logo based on is the picture of her holding the "Primitive Gatherings" sign. You can, if you'd like, make the sign say "OhioKitty". Also, the logo has to fit in with the sky background.
  • Olga Asia - This is the only Olga website I didn't get TenDollarLogo to make me a logo for. The network is coming down, but I am still going to keep 8-10 of the domains including Olga.asia. I think this image has more possibilities than any other logo I've pitched on this page and I would expect something really incredible for it.
    Tagline
    : ASIA
    Tips
: Same as the other Olga logos (check out the Logo Samurai portfolio in the sidebar). Image - Olga (underneath) - Asia (underneath Olga). I don't want this image in a box. I would love to see an image of 3 Asian woman: 1 Muslim (Arabic), 1 Buddhist (Oriental) and 1 Hindu (East Indian). This image would have to fit in with the rest of the Olga logos, but I'd like to see something a cut above the rest.
  • Rare-Gems - This is an alternative Dating website I'm creating in memory of my friend, Little Dan. I've lost touch with him, but he was totally one of those rare-gems that comes along once in a lifetime. Unfortunately, he couldn't get a date to save his life.
    Tagline
    : Online Dating
    Tips
: I'd like to see something that included a rare gem. Maybe an emerald. I like the colors green and gold. This website is going to be done on a black background.
  • Bethesda Ohio - This is a logo for the small town of Bethesda, Ohio. I'm looking at houses down there. A possible move. I like the Belmont County area, in general.
    Tagline
    : (none yet)
    Tips
: Your going to have to research this one. Google images of Bethesda, Belmont County, Ohio. The town is most known for Epworth Park. I'm still researching myself to find out what the town's slogan might be.
  • Staff Yearbook - This is going to be an online yearbook for all of those work places that are more like communities than jobs. I happen to be fortunate enough to work at one of them.
    Tagline
    : (none)
    Tips
: Nothing corporate looking. Actually, now that I think about it, don't do anthing corporate for any of these logos except for the next one.
  • Rosewater Foundation - This is the one logo TenDollarLogo failed miserably at. I gave them 3 or 4 tries and I really didn't like anything they did. The Rosewater Foundation is the hub of all of my websites. This is the website I am most proud of. Unfortunately, whatever logo I get won't go on the site. This is a business card logo. There is also another version of this template up at RosewaterFoundation.com.
    Tagline
: How May We Help You?
    Tips
: Pretty, simple and professional. This is going to be my business card logo. Also, there aren't any specifications for dimensions.
  • Ten Dollar Logo - This website! Eventually, when we redesign, the Logo Samurai banner will come down and we will try to make our website really pretty. We're probably going to design this one ourselves, but I'd like to see what others can come up with.
    Tagline
    : (none)
    Tips
: Remember that we don't sell ten dollar logos. This is an information website about web design.
  • Mix and Match - One From Each Theme!

This category will be the most harshly judged. There is a lot of freedom here. In this category, you can choose one logo from each theme. This will allow you to show the diversity of your skills. Please contact me before attempting this one.

A Final Note

I've got the task of promoting this website ahead of me and I'm probably going to have to contact a lot of logo companies and design groups to get this thing going. My apologies, in advance, if you hate getting unsolicited emails. Please, don't send me emails telling me my contest is stupid and that I am just looking for cheap work. I know it is a little farfetched. I'm hoping there might be some students out there, with talent, who might look at this as a challenge and a place to get started. And then again, there might be some established design firms who see the potential in my website, and use it as an oppurtunity to prove themselves worthy of the prices they charge. For all of those of you who are going to participate - Thanks and Good Luck!
