My Logo Reviews

Not Just Another Ten Dollar Logo

Okay, obviously I am a big fan of the Logo Samurai guys. Their ads are all over my site. I am in their affiliate program. And I did name this website after their former design company. They did, however, provide me with a lot of quality work at a very low cost. And they are still one of the most competitive design firms out there. In fairness to the other logo designers though, I'm going to do some research. I don't want my website to just be a big ad for Logo Samurai. I want to see the great works of art other companies can create. Over the next week, I'm going to look through hundreds of logo design websites and create a short list of all the designers I would be tempted to try if I was looking for somebody new. In time, I hope to get all of them to create at least one logo for me. At which point I will share the results here. My top twenty list will be based on the following:

  • Pricing - all companies must charge $200 USD or less for a logo.
  • The quality of design work in their logo portfolio.
  • The creativeness displayed in their webdesign. (I've always wondered why people who sell design work would do a half-ass job on their website.)
  • Whether or not they offer a money back guarantee.
  • Bonus points for an affiliate program. It never hurts to make a few dollars for making referrals.

*Before you buy from any of these designers, you should check out my tips on buying a logo here, or scroll down to the bottom of the page to view it.

My Top Twenty List - Quality Original Logo Designs for under $200.

This list is being researched through Google Search with the phrase "Logo Design". I have also posted an ad on Guru.com, a freelance service I have used with mostly poor results. Please, if you have a website you would like me to check out, contact me. Also note that, with the exception of Logo Samurai, I have not used any of these services myself, and assume no responsibility for any bad experience you may have with them. That said, these are the companies I will mostly likely use for future logo purchases.

    Comments
: Logo Samurai has created about 50 logos for me and I have absolutely loved probably 40 of them. They don't hit the mark every time, but they do hit it often enough to make them the logo design company I give my highest recommendation to. This is one of my favorite design websites, as well as one of the best portfolios I've seen.

    Comments
: Now here is a company that has everything going for it! The thing that impresses me most about Logo Design Team is their testimonials page. It's not the comments that really make an impact, but the quality of design work that is being commented on - simply amazing! Logo Design Team has a much cheaper basic package available too. If this were a top 3 list, Logo Design Team would still be on it.

: The sheer awesomeness of the Logo Labs website is simply enough to justify their inclusion in this list. Cute images, great layouts, and a very rare tasteful use of flash make this one of the premiere logo design websites on the net. As an art lover, I feel like buying a logo from Logo Labs just to show them my appreciation for the effort that went into this website.

It's got some really great original artwork. Etiziano's style might not be what you're looking for, but it's different, and that makes it worth checking out.

: This spot on my webpage was originally reserved for another logo design company. Unfortunately, for both myself and them, the logos they were designing for me just weren't very good. The lucky benefactor of this misfortune was Kool Designing. This was a last minute scramble. They don't have the best portfolio I've seen, but for the price their designs just might do.

  • A Logo Design Company

: This is probably the best deal I have found in my search even though it's a limited time offer. *A Logo Design Company has a special limited time offer of $29 for a logo. The offers expires whatever day you go to the website at midnight. Still, this might not last forever AND there are some really great logos in their portfolio. I particularly liked a couple of images they had under 'dating logos'.

  • Web Logic Guru

    : $50
    Comment
: If you ever wanted an example of how a simple website should look, here it is. It would look a little bit better if the top graphic links had rollover images, and if the 'contact us' page wasn't just a duplicate of the sidebar form. Other than that, you can find out almost all you need to know about Web Logic Guru from the home page. Cute site and logos. They also offer unlimited concepts.

In Conclusion

I didn't realize how difficult it would be to find 20 quality logo design websites. I found plenty of designers that priced under $200, but I couldn't bring myself to add them to the list. I kept asking myself, 'Would I buy a logo from this company?' The answer, more often than not, was 'No.' If you discover that your company is on the list, you can expect an email from me within the next few months. Ultimately, I will be contacting everyone listed here to make sure their work and professionalism justifies them being mentioned, and if it doesn't, to remove them. If you do hear from me, regarding either a logo purchase or trying to pursuade you to enter my contest, I hope you will give me a good deal. If you are a consumer who has had a negative experience with one of these companies, let me know. I will take all feedback into consideration. This list will constantly be changing.

Banned from the List

This section is the future home of logo companies that were on the list that have gotten banned from the list. Stay away from these companies.

Logo Bench - Our website has only been up a week and I'me already going to give you the heads up on one Logo Company you should definitely avoid. I found Logo Bench on guru.com. They were pretty aggressive at trying to get my business. Their original logo concepts weren't bad, but looked very familiar. I told them that I didn't want them using stock images. They were offended that I would make such an accusation. After a week of horrible revision after horrible revision, I decided I would try to help them out and find some photographs and other running logos that I could give them ideas with. During my search, I found out they were clipping images out of other artist's logos and presenting them as their own. As of yet, they have not given me a refund and have not even responded to my email. Stay away from these RIP-OFF artists.

50 Dollar Logo - If you've done any research yourself, you are probably wondering why 50DollarLogo isn't on the list. Ya, I've read their pitch - 6 original concepts, 2 artists, unlimited redraws and unlimited revisions, and a money back guarantee for only $50. Do the math on this one, folks. If it sounds too good to be true, it's probably because it is. I haven't dealt with this company myself, but it is only because I am afraid to. With all of the work they promise to put into your logo, they could quite possibly end up working for a couple dollars an hour. So, I did some investigating. Turns out50DollarLogo has a string of bad reviews behind them.

Personally, I'd prefer to pay my designer a living wage and get a higher quality design than one I've seen in 50DollarLogo's portfolio. Can't say for sure they are bad news, but I am definitely going to stay away from them.

Several Websites Worth Mentioning

These are some websites I found during my search that I thought might be worth mentioning even though, for one reason or another, I couldn't include them on the list.

  • Fiasco Farm
    Basic Package Price
    : $425 USD
    Comment
: Do you need a farm logo? This artist's logos go for $425 USD plus $40 an hour for addition revisions. The operative word here being 'artist'. Laurence Bunton's website was another one-man-show I was fortunate enough to stumble upon during my search. Again, not for everyone, but definitely worth checking out.

  • Logo Lizard

    Comment
: This website was brought to my attention when I contacted My Custom Logo regarding something else. Apparently, they are run by the same company. The website and portfolio both look pretty good, although I think My Custom Logo has a stronger portfolio. (Logo Lizard has a cheaper price.) I think it's a little unfair to mention the same company twice. If something doesn't work out with one of the others on the list, Logo Lizard will be the first to get bumped up.

    Comment
: If you want to take a step up from my previous listing, and are willing to cough up an extra $12, this would probably be a much better choice. Logo Nerds aren't bad and they do have a few good things as part of their package. They do give you 3 different concepts from 3 different designers. They also claim to have free revisions, but don't specifically say the word 'unlimited'. Might be good. I liked some of the stuff in their portfolio.

Before You Buy Your Logo....

So, you've gone through my list of logo companies and you think you have found one that you want to do business with. Here are somethings you might want to know and/or do before you purchase your logo.

  1. Do your own investigation. Whenever you buy anything off the internet, you should always investigate the company you are buying from. Do a search for your company and include the term 'logo review'. If they had a reputation for poor service or product, someone has likely mentioned it on a forum somewhere.
  2. Exam the fine details. There are several things that I have neglected to write about when finding a good deal on a logo. The number of artists working on your logo and number of concepts you will get, for example, are both things that you should pay attention to.
  3. Be prepared. Even if you don't have an idea of what you want your logo to look like, you probably have seen other logos you do like. Try to keep a collection of images while you are searching. Reference everything you like from fonts to colors to pictures, and make sure you pass these things on to your designer.

  4. Stay away from freelancers. You may find the odd rare-gem on websites like Elance or Guru, but they are few and far between. Stick to established logo design companies that have solid reputations.
  5. Get all the files. Even if you don't have Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop, getting the AI file is extremely important. And if there is a PSD, try to get that too. If you have a falling out with the designer and you need to pass your logo on to someone else for changes, JPEGs and GIFFs will do you no good.
  6. Get it in writing. Make sure the designer knows what you expect from them, and there is a contract stating so.

That's about it. I really hope you get the logo you want. Good luck!
